PRENATAL PARENTHOOD PREPARATION

There’s More to Prepare for Than Birth

Most prenatal education focuses on childbirth and newborn care. Preparing for Parenthood focuses on what comes next. We prepare you for the daily realities of becoming a parent and give you the skills you need before your baby arrives. So you’re not left piecing information together through trial and error, books, and online searches, with a newborn in your arms and getting very little sleep.

Come learn alongside other expecting parents and with a team of perinatal experts.

Ashika Morgan, founder and lead instructor of Parents To Be

Founder and Lead Instructor

Meet Ashika Morgan

Ashika is your Lead Instructor for Preparing for Parenthood. For 20 years, she has worked inside family homes, caring for babies and supporting parents through the transition into early parenthood. Drawing on her experience as a nanny, newborn care specialist and baby sleep consultant, along with her training in lactation education, she will guide you through the program, teach the core classes and introduce you to local perinatal professionals who will teach specialized areas of preparation.

Meditation has been an important part of Ashika’s life for many years, and travel is one of her great loves. Both have shaped the curriculum and how she teaches. Together, they have taught her to stay curious, make room for different perspectives and resist the idea that there is only one right way to do things.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if we miss one of the Saturday morning classes?

If you are sick or have a scheduling conflict, you will still be able to follow along with the next class. Most classes cover standalone topics and do not require you to have attended the one before. The exception is the baby sleep class, which is taught in two connected parts. You will also have access to the course materials from the missed class, many of which include a short ebook. Missed classes are not refundable, and make-up classes are not available.

Does one registration fee cover both me and my partner?

Yes, absolutely. The program price of $1,430 covers both you and one additional attendee—whether that is a spouse, co-parent, family member, or friend. We encourage parents to attend together or with another trusted support person in their life.

We are already taking a prenatal class. Do we still need this?

Yes. If your prenatal classes focus primarily on pregnancy and birth—as most prenatal classes do—then you still need this. Preparing for Parenthood focuses on what comes next: daily life with a newborn and the transition into parenthood, which standard birth classes simply do not have time to cover. Our program is designed to complement childbirth education rather than replace it.

Is Capilano University easy to get to if we live outside North Vancouver?

Yes. That is exactly why we chose it. Capilano University sits directly off Highway 1, making it an easy Saturday morning commute for parents driving from Burnaby, East Vancouver, West Vancouver, or the Tri-Cities. Because classes are held on Saturday mornings, you will completely skip weekday rush-hour traffic, and there is ample parking not far from the classroom building.

What is the ideal due-date window for the upcoming Fall 2026 program?

The upcoming Preparing for Parenthood program, running from October 31 to December 12, is perfectly timed for parents with estimated due dates in 2027. If your due date is earlier, contact Ashika to talk through whether the program is still the right fit for you or to explore other options, such as attending selected classes.

What happens if my baby arrives earlier than expected?

Sometimes babies surprise us and arrive earlier than expected. If your baby arrives before you complete Preparing for Parenthood, you have options. You may continue attending with your newborn, have one registered attendee continue while the other stays home, or withdraw. If you choose to withdraw, we will refund the tuition allocated to classes that have not yet taken place, together with the corresponding GST. View the full policy.

Can we just sign up for specific classes instead of the full seven weeks?

Yes. While the full seven-week program offers the most comprehensive preparation, we understand that due dates and busy schedules require flexibility. You can choose The Essentials—joining us for the first four Saturdays—or register for selected classes à la carte.

Prefer to Join Us for Part of the Program?

We offer flexible learning options to fit your schedule, budget, and due date timeline.
